problems connecting to the msql server

hello,

i'm trying to perform a fresh new install, and get this installation error:  (http://www.a-p-s.org.au/webfolios/install.php?step=7 )
can anyone help me shed some light onto my problem? i have contacted my hosting company and they say that it is the code that needs to be adjusted.
If i can't fix it, is there anyway i can manually configure the install?

It appears that you no longer have the coppermine files uploaded?

Is this where it is failing? http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/install_screen.htm#install_screen_wizard_mysql_select
Are you creating or using an existing database?
Have you tried that classic installer?

Also Coppermine requires an Apache server, http://www.litespeedtech.com/ appears to be an Apache alternative? It may not be compatible.
