Pics not uploading

I have just installed coppermine. Everything is up and running, but I cannot upload a single file. When using the batch add, pic files show up as red x's and when I click on the x I can view the pic. When I go to upload the file, I do not get a confirmation that it has uploaded (ie OK blah blah) it is just a red x. When I try to upload pics via the web, It acts like it is uploading, but when the page refreshes, it says 0 file uploaded successfully.

- needs to be fixed first.
