Java upload tool

Yeah something like it but that can be run from a homepage. The newest gallery has a java applet included in the gallery installation that lets you upload images directly from the site regardless of which computer you are using. It just needs to have a java VM

I would appreciate such a tool too I can't write java, but I found this: http://jupload.sourceforge.net/index.html while searching for a tool I could integrate in my gallery. Is it possible that you could put this applet into your gallery? I don't know how to do it

I'm playing with a different version of Jupload maintaned by someone other than the sourceforge project.

It's pretty interesting. If I continue with developement of it, I'll make it a plugin for 1.4, but I don't see us replacing the existing upload functionality since it does require javascript.

But you know maybe not, with the incorporation of Ajax and resources like google maps, and the explosive growth of Ajax apps, users remaining with no Javascript will be missing out on some really compelling web content.  Java is making its way to being mandatory, and blocking it for security reasons is becoming more and more costly to the user. There may be some point in the future where we say we don't care that your ghetto browser doesn't support Java... shutup, upgrade, and be happy.... but were not quite there yet

For me, I disable Java for stability reasons since java sites tend to hang or crash my browser (Firefox). I guess I haven't noticed what I'm missing.

@donnoman: I don't get it - are you mixing up the terms "Java" and JavaScript" deliberately? How could an app coded in Java rely on JavaScript and vice versa?

I know enough about Java/Javascript to shoot myself in the foot... usually repeatedly.

I'm not sure where the line gets drawn with browser support and Java vs Javascript.

Jupload is embeded as an object and downloads to the client as a Jar, so I guess thats Java.  But it can be manipulated with JavaScript, which I guess is the inline version of Java on a page.

I don't get the actual distinction... Java is Java whatever flavor it is.  I've not seen a browser config that lets you enable javascript but allow java or vice versa. I guess it's just my ignorance on the subject; enlightenment is welcome.

They have no relationship whatsover, it's just unfortunate naming. Firefox webdeveloper tool thingy lets you enable/disable them independently.

Yup. I can disable Java without it affecting javascript.
