Uploading in Categories?

Is it possible to have the pictures displayed in categories? Or only albums? I've noticed some sites  (http://theocimages.com)  have them uploaded into the categories. I didnt download the files, my cpanel set them up, so I dont have the manual. Thanks! Much appreciated!
