ok i havent been using copermine long and the person that is running the gallery with me hasnt eaither....and neither of us are using FTP to upload pictures but all of a suddend when we were uploading we go this message:

ok this is going to sound really stupid but what does that mean?

It means you need to fix the access permissions on the folder edit which is located in the folder albums which is locted on your web server. You need to use either your FTP client or some interface provided by your host to change the permissions on that folder so that coppermine can write to it. This is usually specified in terms of a number, or you may need to tick boxes. If so check all the boxes. Refer to your host or your FTP client's instructions if you don't know how to set such permissions.
