Problems with the install.php file

After I fill out the form on install.php, and hit the Let's Go! Button, it gives me the following error message...

Could not create a mySQL connection, please check the SQL values entered

MySQL error was : Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
