At the end of the week, you'll have a new version of CPG, entierely in CSS / DHTML / XMLHTTPREQUEST.

To see the gain of the server, and called pages ...

index.php = 15 > 17 ko
thumbnails.php = 14 > 18 ko
displayimage.php = 14 > 20 ko

our index.php > 3,5 ko and ... it's the ONLY page !!!

All is rewritten in xmlhttprequest .. our version is for moment CLIENT version (not admin) ... so ... I manage 83 000 photos and the server answer si so quick ... all is in CSS : you can display information like you want (thumbs on the right, the left, the top, the bottom ...). It will not be a mod, but a plugin (you upload on your server, and it will work directly :))

- Thumbs are the default thumbs of CPG : the cropped illusion is done by CSS (and repositionning the pic inside a BLOCK A with negative margins)
- All categories, albums and pictures will have their own url.
- possibility to filter (in my example, I don't want USER GALLERIES appear)
- only 4ko HTML / 4ko css ... and very easy to custom with the rest of your site :
* http://www.sortons.net/nucleus/
* http://www.sortons.net/cinema/
* http://www.sortons.net/agenda/
- Wishes ??? Possibility to call albums everywhere on your site without leaving the page you see : the popup layer appears directly on your page without going in CPG root.
- Todo : at the top of the album, the name of the last category will be clickable to do appear all albums of this category : preventing from closing the layer to see again the category.

We have ideas to explore yet, I give you some screenshots :)

To do : add a right menu with Next & Prev Image, Zoom (big size), comments ...

When you surf in page 2, for example, only the thumbs are reloaded, and the intermediate pic is the first pic of the next page ...

It's not popup, only dhtml layer. You reduce about ... 75% of server to call informations. (but we'll benchmark it when all will be ok (in particular when admin options will be included).

In what way shape or form is this a feature request ?

Rodinou

I don't understand your sentence :)

But Visibly I have not rights to post in Mods section ...

Joachim Müller

this sub-board is meant for requests for new versions of coppermine. Yours is not a valid request for future versions. Neither does it qualify as a mod, as there is no code nor an attachment nor a download link in your posting. After all, you're just showing off, as before. You have been around for so long, you should know board rules pretty well. You keep announcing big changes, previews, screenshots, you promote your site over and over again, but I have never ever seen an actual valid contribution from you that contained working code that end users could easily implement. If you have something to say, package your code, zip it and attach it to your posting. Come on Rod, stop boasting - show us actual code (not some pseudo stuff).

Rodinou

Previous screenshots were made ... by Photoshop :) the screenshots you see here are a version of Coppermine where I have browsed on it. I don't see the interest to put a code which is not finished and bugged yet, that's why I say "this week" because it takes time. I promote nothing ... so ... YES, I promote the end of table, and the inutility to load 100000000 pagse to see the SAME information. The only thing I can say, it's "wait & see" and I think you'll like. About valid contribution code, I have posted the scrolling CSS (never used as standard in CPG) for long descriptions in albums :) To finish, I have never said "ME" in this post, but "OUR", so, I'm not alone on this project, and I think you know Gaugau, work at several on the same project is not easy to "manage" when you are alone. At least, I think this code could replace "Slideshow" option, but I'll post all here when it will be finished. And if, of course, the idea to surf without xxx pages interest people.

Rodinou

Even if it's beta (next / prev don't work ... and a lot of things, the layout of "last albums" is not the good ... but you'll have an idea)

http://www.sortons.net/photos/?theme=sulfur

Feedback is welcome. All beta testers (in France, Rouen) who have tested find it more intuitive and easier. But I know France and the rest of the world is not the same thing :)

omniscientdeveloper

So this isn't a "new" version, like you stated, but just a new theme?

Rodinou

Not really the truth ...

1. a theme changes only colors or by following the link, you have a total xmlhttprequest navigation : you don't need to jump on xxxxxxxx pages to see a pic.

2. for moment we finalize the "client" side. But we want to integrate directly on home page admin options. But there is a lot stuff.

3. We are waiting for CPG 1.4 to see the differences and rewrite the script as well.

Rodinou

OK let's go !

http://www.sortons.net/photos/?theme=sulfur

What's OK
- Count of the pics
- Separation of the pages
- Prev / Next
- Comments
- preview with dhtml tooltip ( < 3 ko )
- css = 5 ko and you control the whole gallery !
- last albums
- last comments
- most popular pics

>> it's a browsable gallery. I need your feedback to finish the "CLIENT" side.

To do ?
All admin side which will be 100% integrated in the client side (example : when you want to add a category, you click where you want to add the cat', and ... add it :))

With this "vision" of CPG, you can
- reduce server loads
- change the theme very easily (if you have small notions of CSS)
- see a lot of pics with a very intuitive navigation

All suggestions are welcomed : when we could "answer" of the request, we'll post all the files here (not I don't want, but I want to give you something perfect)

On my 800x600 screen I cannot see the menu items on the left column and the images under "Derniers albums mis en ligne" are unavailable to me as there is no scroll bar for that frame.

Using WindowsXP-pro with IE and Firefox.

Learn and live ... In January of 2011, after a botched stent attempt, the doctors told me I needed a multiple bypass surgery or I could die.  I told them I needed new doctors.

Rodinou

"normal" I would like to say, because I have worked on it on 1024 !
That's why there are multi options : you can choose the navigation you want (you remove in fact one column).

But it's true : this modification is for 1024 and > ... because on my stats, 75% of users are 1024.

75%?  Wow.  The stats I found on the net were 33% 800, 33% 1024, 33% all others. I suppose it varies by type of site.

I think too : however in France, we were very very late about all the countries. Prices of the PCs in France are very down now, and all the new PCs since 2001/2002 are with 1024x768 resolution. I was before in 800x600 but all cybercafes, PCs in faculties are 1024 ... so :)

First feedbacks on my site are promising about this new navigation : they find it very simple and very fast. I'm waiting more feedbacks :)

artistsinhawaii

You may want to consider using % percentages for column widths. or putting back the scroll bars.

The strangest thing, though, is that the page does not align on the left or right of my screen. It sits in the middle and bleeds off the edges making both left and right impossible to access.

Good luck with your modification.  Hopefully, your subsequent update will get to the MOD/HACK section.

Hoping you can see this hack on a "REAL" (joke :)) screen :) Because we have worked very hardly since 2 weeks ... we have in same time answered at several request, like count the number of sub-cat and pics inside a cat, or to limit the number of loads : thanx for your feedback, I'll consider them for the final version.

Here's the big new of our dev : call without ANY problem CPG outside of the CPG root :)

Example with a Nucleus Article

http://www.sortons.net/articles/index.php?itemid=402

Find "Photos du Concert" by Rod and you'll see a CPG gallery.

We have finished too : calling last xxx albums from a category, calling categories.

I think this album is pretty awesome if i must say... but are you going to have a mod or package or something for this for us to use? or is this just your site you are showing off?  good job with the CSS work for sure, with the moveable layers and what not.

Joachim Müller

just a show off, no actual code available
