Hi, all! First time here - hope you can help!
I can't get the "User reg" or "E-card" mail function to work.
I get an error message saying "502 - Command locally disabled".
From reading posts, I understand that php's core build supports the mail function without needing any further installations. However, I've already discovered that the "Installer" version of php (which I currently use) doesn't include the gd2.dll, so I installed that separately to allow the thumbnail function to work. I'm wondering if the same "omission" applies to the mail function???
To try working around this (before re-installing the full zip of php), I've tried setting the smtp details in mailer.inc and php.ini, but this is when I get the error above.
Any clues for a quick fix? Or should I simply install the php zip?

BTW - I gotta agree with just about everyone on here - this Gallery ROCKS BIG TIME!
I'm trying hard... at least!

You talk about gd2.dll, which means that you're on windows: windows doesn't come with SMTP support (only Lunix has got proper SMTP support "out-of-the-box"). You're in for some reading on server setup, as this can't be discussed on this board in detail.

P.S. of course Coppermine doesn't come with gd2.dll - read the requirements: you need to already have a webserver, php, mysql and an image lib (gd or Image Magick, your choice) up and running before installing coppermine.

Thanks, Gaugau, for replying. I appreciate it.
Yeah, I'm pretty new to all of this stuff. I do have Abyss webserver running on my (Windoze) machine... and php and mysql. That was why I did the gd2.dll fix, to enable automatic thumbnailing. Imagemagick..ack! For a newb like me, it was too much! And I read that for Windows, IM was a complete pain!
Thanks for the hint on smtp. I figgered that as my email uses smtp, it would be O.K. to try (the posts I read didn't make it clear that smtp was a "Linux thing"). I'm off to "hit the books"!

Actually, coppermine's smtp works fine on Windows. Since it seems you are hosting your own server, all you have to do is set the smtp information in mailer.inc to the smtp server you use to send mail from outlook. It should work. (At least it works for me.)

If you are getting a 502, your mail server is probably not working properly. Try to run this command from "Start"
telnet your.smtp.server 25
If your smtp server is working properly, you should receive a 220 message. If it doesn't, contact your ISP about it.

As for imagemagick, the whole myth about it being a complete pain to install on Windows is all just a huge misunderstanding. If you download the imagemagick source, yes it's going to be a pain, because you're gonna have to compile it... But most people do not realize there is a binary distribution for windows, which installs just like any other windows program.

try: ftp://ftp.imagemagick.org/pub/ImageMagick/binaries/ImageMagick-5.5.7-Q8-windows-dll.exe

Download that and install it, then all you have to do is type the path to imagemagick into coppermine.. something like C:/imagemagick or C:/Progra~1/imagemagick
It's that simple

info: i am running my own windows server with cpg1.2.1

i have a problem with ecards. i can't send them. I tested your command and i get a 220, so smtp should work. Btw i am trying to use my smtp.xs4all.nl as smtp host (off course with the username and password).

in mailer.inc.php

i use these settings:

$CONFIG['smtp_host'] = 'smtp.xs4all.nl';
$CONFIG['smtp_username'] = 'blup';
$CONFIG['smtp_password'] = '12345';

but when i try to send a ecard i get the following message:

Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 503 5.3.3 AUTH not available

the username and password are correct (100% sure).

anyone have an idea, or knows what i do wrong?
