Yet another upload issue?

Hi everyone,

My apologies if I missed a solution to my problem. I trawled through the documentation and this forum but couldn't see anything relevant.

Here's what I've done:
1. Set permissions on the albums directory as specified in the tutorial.
2. Enabled file_upload in php.ini, and created temp dir for upload and set the appropriate permissions
3. Narrowed down uploads to single files only to pinpoint the errors,

Here's what's happened:

When I looked in the H:\gallery\albums\userpics\10001 directory there was no image files in there at all. That's probably why ImageMagick complained? It couldn't find the source file to process...

It seems that just about every other problems with ImageMagick was solved by using GD2. That's just what I did and it seems to work. I only have one question about this.

Is there any quality difference between ImageMagick and GD2? I only have a mediocre LCD monitor so can't quite tell the difference. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

IMO, GD2 and ImageMagick are nearly equal in quality.  All Coppermine does is make smaller versions of your images - so even if ImageMagick is a bit better, does that really matter?  In my opinion, it does not.

Thanks for that. Things seem to be working just fine with GD2. Just out of curiosity, is there a known issue with ImageMagick in setups like mine? I see quite a few posts about problems with IM, and the replies often suggest going to GD2.

Installing ImageMagick on Windows is a tricky task.  Most of the time permissions just aren't set correctly and it's hard to get it working.  That's why we recommend using GD2 instead of ImageMagick for Windows installs.
