I have got gd2 ver 2.0.28 which supports Gif files being uploaded. but when i use it, it says it is not a gd extension. ?
and i say in another post "some changes in coppermine needed to make gif support work" what are these changes?

will the images still be animated when they are at full screen?

Why don't you just try? GD doesn't come with support for animated GIFs, so the intermediate image and the thumbnail will not be animated, but display a resized version of the first frame of the GIF. The fullsize pic however will not be touched, it stays as you uploaded it, so it will have animation - yes.
