i messed up and typed the wrong database info on the install.  i cannot reinstall due to server is locked message.  how can i fix this mess?

look for a file on your server called install.lock (usually in /include) and rename (or delete) it - you can then run install.php once more. The other option you have is to look for a file called /include/config.inc.php, download it to yor local hard drive, edit it (fill in the correct mySQL settings) and upload it again - this is mainly helpfull if your mySQL configuration changed after you installed coppermine and it was up-and-running. If you never got it running in the first place it's likely that the necessary tables and values inside mySQL were not created properly - go for the first option (delete install.lock).

Hello,
There is no install.lock.php or config.inc.php in root/includes or modules/coppermine/includes folders.
What's wrong?

You may be on the wrong board.  /Modules would indicate you are using Nuke.  If so, you should read http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=2277
