I just upgraded to 142 and my movies no longer play back.

Here is an example:  http://brentschultz.com/allphotos/displayimage.php?album=125&pos=27

Of course, they didn't play back very well when I was using 13x either.  Back then, in Firefox and Safari they would play a zoomed in version of the movie so that you wouldn't see the full extent of the video in any direction.  IE played the videos (avi, mov, mpg) correctly.  But I pretty much refuse to use IE unless my life were in danger.

Now, in 142, they don't play at all.  I've tried it in Safari, Firefox, and IE, all on a Mac, and they all show a video player but they don't play at all from what I can tell.  I currently have "ALL" for movie types and "NO" for start playback in the admin section.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.    bws

I just went to the link you gave and it works fine for me!

What browser are you using?  Maybe an issue with plugins?

I'll try again in the the morning on my work computer (Win XP).

noworyz

i have win xp and am using MSN explorer and internet explorer.  it works on both!

bwschult

Well, that's encouraging.  It must be a problem on my end.  I have no idea what the problem would be since it worked before the 142 upgrade... but I'll have troubleshoot it somehow.

If anyone is reading this on a mac, please let me know.  Thanks!

noworyz

I just tried it on firefox twice and both time it said "firefox has encountered a problem and needs to close" then it closed firefox.  Something must be wrong with firefox and the videos!

I tried it on my gallery and the videos work fine in both IE and FF!

bwschult

So are you saying that videos, in general - not my videos, work in your gallery using Firefox and IE?  What type of movie files do you have?  Most of mine are .mpg

I'll post my experience with XP using IE and FF tomorrow morning.

I've noticed severe problems like you with Firefox.  If I try to watch a movie, my website crashes and no more links within the site work - even reloading my index fails.  The only way to re-access my site is to restart firefox.  However, I am able to visit other websites, not within my domain.  So that's pretty bad.  At least in Safari and IE I can continue working on my site.

noworyz

I have wmv videos.

your site crashed in firefox for me too!

Tranz

hmmm... I get inconsistent results but no crash.

1) In Firefox, got intermittent audio and video... like when you talk on a cell phone and huge portions of the conversation get dropped. The video was more like a slide show... not fluid.
2) Tried IE and it worked so I realized there was supposed to be music and not short bursts of static.
3) Tried again to play the video in FF and the audio work but I got a white screen
4) Cleared FF cache, refreshed the page. Video and audio worked.

I've got FF 1.0.7

bwschult

I've been able to get them to work on my XP machine using Firefox 1.0.7 and IE 6.0.  In Firefox, I was unable to pause/stop and restart the clips.  All I get then is a white screen and the audio.  You have to refresh the page to make it work.

IE seems to work perfectly.  I have wmv, avi, and mpeg working there.

However, they still do not work at all on the Apple OS in Firefox/IE/Safari.  Which bothers me.  Any other mac users out there?

There seem to be a few browser inconsistenties.  Maybe it's just me (because I'm a mac user) but I think Coppermine should be tested thoroughly on Safari and Firefox for the Mac and Firefox/IE for Windows XP/2000.

Nibbler

We can only test Coppermine on the setups we have access to. It's up to mac users to do the testing and report what needs to be fixed. I run Firefox on linux and your movies play perfectly.

bwschult

I am doing the testing and being clear WHAT needs to be fixed.  As for WHY it doesn't work, I have no clue.

The movies play on Windows XP (IE and Firefox)  They don't seem to be completely stable on Firefox but workable.
They do not play on Mac OS (IE, Firefox, Safari)

They previously played on Mac OS and XP using Coppermine 1.3.2.  So something has changed.

bwschult

So no other mac users out there?

Bummer.

Hopefully, a CPG dev can find a friend of a friend of a friend who has a mac and test this.  Until then, I'll poke around on other message boards and test other photo gallery packages to see how they handle movies.

And I have verified that trying to view movies in Firefox on the Mac causes my entire web domain to become inactive.  I can go to other sites, like cnn.com or wherever, but never back to my own domain without quitting and restarting firefox.  I tried clearing the FF cache per TranzNDance's suggestion but that didn't work either.  brentschultz.com was broken for me.  It seems there ARE other issues going on as TND suggested however.

Can anyone point me to which php file controls movie parameters in cpg?  I'll take a look at the code myself but I'm quite the novice with php.  I may eventually just have to rewrite it such that it won't allow playback of the file within the browser, rather, will just provide a link to download to the user's desktop.  That may be better, anyway.

include/media.functions.inc.php

bwschult

I took a look at the include/media.functions.inc.php file from both versions of coppermine and they  are pretty close to identical.

132 did not have this line:

if (!defined('IN_COPPERMINE')) { die('Not in Coppermine...');}

But removing it did not affect things on the XP side.

Other than that, there are just some variable name changes such as

db_query in 132 to cpg_db_query in 142

Those variables are probably used elsewhere but I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Joachim Müller

those aren't vars, but functions. Big difference.
