I've searched and an old topic found which is my question, but it ist not answered for my satisfy and also for an older version (the topic is from 2003).

How many Pictures Coppermine can handle ?

I've got an own server, and till now an other gallery, but this gallery effects penetrant high database and webserver load, i want to change now the gallery, but there are imho 30.000 picutres, every moth there will be about 10.000 new pictures, so i have to dfelete older pictures, but this isn't may aim. Nowadays, if i would have never deleted old pics there would be around 250.000 picutres.
Can coppermine handle so many and more pics without so much database/webserver load ?

Is there somewhere an archive-function for older pics in the coppermine? so that the pics are static?

Thanks for reading my bad english ;-)
Thanks for answers in advance ....

What do you mean by static pictures?  Coppermine creates thumbnails and intermediate pictures (or not depending on config) when photos are added so all these pictures are static unless you use a watermark mod or other mod for dynamically creating modified photos.

let me try to explain:
in my now used gallery there are the sies static, no problem, but every site causes database queries, beacause the location of the pic is saved in the database. The more pictures are now online, the more raises the load of the server. and the user can't surf the site quick.
with static picutres  i mean the sites, in older gallerys for example, which can only be viewd, not commented, like, i make a html site for each picture with 0 database queries, so that the load of the server will not raise while watching older pictures ....

Coppermine stores picture locatins in the database as well, so every page view will require database queries as well. There's no limit in coppermine how many files it can contain, the limit is the server's power and bandwidth - so your question doesn't apply, as we can't say wether your hardware will be capable to run coppermine with 30k pics. We can't say what amount of traffic you get neither.

I'm afraid to ask what kind of site this is.

Coppermine as it is doesn't have this feature, as GauGau said.  I'm considering whether I'd like something like this for family members who have only dialup access.  The idea is to send them a CD every few weeks which automatically updates their local copy of my photo gallery on their personal computers.  But right now I'm thinking about setting up Apache & MySQL so I could merely do an sync with my site and then they could also have all the useful features of dynamic pages running locally.

In any case, someone would have to work on this as an add-on.  It could be you, if you have the inclination and skills (or want a great project to learn the skills).

There are other threads where people discuss large Coppermine galleries - try out the 'ol search tool.  I'm sure multi-10k if not multi-100k sites have been mentioned.

So, with good server Coppermine can handle as many photos as I want.  What about creating albums and categories - can I also create them without any limits?
I wonder if MySQL can handle with so many queries (for example when my gallery will contain 500 000 files, 1000 albums and 200 categories)?
P.S. My gallery is used by 1-10 persons at one time.

Am I thinking correct?
