catergory block in vertical collum next to the album

I like to put the contents of the category block as a navigation on the side of the page, and i want to add some extra links there.
does somebody know how to do this.

the categories are not a separate block that can easily be moved around on the page, so what you're trying to accomplish is hard and requires a lot of code changes. Adding a custom link to the coppermine menu has been asked and answered often already, please search the board.
