When a new user registers, admin gets the follwing message, but the user does not get any email at all.

"A new user with the username "spanner" has registered in your gallery.
In order to activate the account, you need to click on the link below or copy and paste it in your web browser.

Thanks

Yes

No email send to user when a new user registers or after admin has activated account to 'regsitered'.

I have re-checked config and looks okay.

I've the same problem

When a user registers, the admins get notification, but the user doesn't get a verification email, the admin approval is set to off? Any ideas?

I've left the email settings blank as they worked before I upgraded to 1.4.3 , I've also tried entering the smtp details, still no luck. I can't understand how it successfully manages to send an email to the admins but not the user?

Can anyone help, don't like bumping threads, but would rather users could register themselves than rely on admin intervention each time. As pointed out above, if it were the settings for email I don't understand how the admins are getting notifications of membership requests  ???

Have you enabled 'User registration requires email verification' ?

THoTH_2005

It was already enabled after the upgrade, it was set before too.

What message does the user get when they register ?

THoTH_2005

Never asked them, I guess they're getting the message about it being mailed off to them?

well, then try it. Log out and go through registration.  ::) Paste the answer to the question into your posting...

THoTH_2005

Terms and conditions screen first..

then asks for my details which I entered

Username    THoTH_Test
Password     XXXXXXXX
Re-enter password   XXXXXXXX
Email    XXXXXXXXXX
Optional information
Location
Interests
Website
Occupation
Biography

then I click "Submit Registration"

then this screen

Thank you for registering.

An email with information on how to activate your account was sent to the email address you provided.

Click Continue, then it takes me back to the front page of Coppermine. The admins then get notification that the user has registered, but the user doesn't get the email, in this example I didn't get the email.

well, you have enabled admin activation then. Enable user activation instead.

Excuse me, but I haven't enabled admin activation, the settings haven't changed from before the upgrade, admin activation was off before and still is.If it were selected the users would get a message to that effect, rather than "An email with information on how to activate your account was sent to the email address you provided" ?

Just to let you know I upgraded to the latest version 1.4.4, and now admins aren't receiving notification either nor the users, nothing was changed in the settings.

I ran a version check, and there is only one file at the old version, which is one it says in the install instructions not to overwrite, anycontent.php, all others check out.

might beable to shed some light on this
i currently run a web server with a few hundred clients, as of late we've set it up so people can install coppermine with just a few clicks, so its becoming quite popular
however, we've run into a bit of a snag...
No verification emails being sent, but admin is receiving the emails.
Heres what ive found so far
lets go off this example:

Server hosts the following:
domaina.com
domainb.com

Customer uses the following:

customerdomain.com which is not hosting by our server.

when a new user is registering on coppermine using an email account on one of our local hosted domains, they get the email
but whenever it tries to send email outside of its own domains, the emails seem to vanish.
so while coppermine is still sending verification emails locally, it is not sending them beyond its own local host.
I've been trying to figure out why, by checking the smtp server, since its IIS, we had to set it to show the local smtp server. and not use the default which i believe is sendmail.
while this works with apps like phpbb, etc
it however does not seem to work correctly with coppermine.

I hope this might shed some light on how to fix this as i am currently at a loss, any suggestions would be appreicated.

thanks.

Hello,

here is my small input...

I just "played" at home with version 1.3.5 and 1.4.4 of Coppermine.

With version 1.3.5 everything works great. Mails are send by the server, as txt email -> no problem (even gmail does not put it into the spam folder)

No I just try the version 1.4.4 and the emails are send, too.
BUT - ups - the registration emails are send as multipart?  :'(
Google now say's -> this is spam and put's it into the spam box...
GMX brings a nice warning (This is HTML and may be dangerous - you really want to open html email)...

Also the sender field looks not so nice any more with version 1.4.4,
e.g. "From: "\"Coppermine Photo Gallery\"" <webmaster@...>

I just tried to find here at the board a reason why it was changed from version 1.3.5 to 1.4.4 - but i could not find any inforamtion about this. Maybe I did not dig deep enough.

So, why was it changed?
Why did it not stay the old way?

Even phpBB - and a lot of other programs - do not send user emails (registration, password info etc.) as HTML (or multipart) - and I guess I start to know why...
Because it seams these HTML emails, when a user tries to register etc. just run into big trouble.

Ok, the ecard emails - let them stay as HTML not a real big deal - because they are not that important.

But I really think something needs to be done about the registration, password forget and admin info emails...

I love Coppermine - and I really would love to use version 1.4.4 - with plain text emails again, please.
Can someone tell me, if there is a fix for this? To change these emails to plain text emails...

Sorry, for the typos - but I am german and my english is not the best  ;)

Greets,
TBoomer

THoTH_2005

Your English is perfect ! no problems there, and thank you so much for confirming what I've found, you know a lot more than I about this, so am afraid I can't help much further. I am just wondering if the problem for my installation could be something domain related. The domain hasn't changed though, nothing has, but coppermine is installed 2 folders down. \folder1\coppermine\ etc. This never used to be a problem.

The only reason that makes me think any differently, apart from what you've mentioned above is that when I tried some earlier versions of Coppermine in a seperate folder and database, it told me that I couldn't install as a module of Nuke. I wasn't installing it to Nuke, but the root of my server is for a Nuke site, the latest versions didn't issue this warning so assumed that was resolved.

Like you everything worked fine, and it appears that it may be because of multi-part emails, I have to say though I use gmail and the registration emails didn't appear in the spam area either, I even set up a new gmail account to verify that nothing was coming through. Have also this week upgraded to 1.4.4. hoping that it would resolve the issues.

Like you I think Coppermine is an excellent program, and have used it for some time now, it's just a shame something so essential to the use of it, is impaired by a problem like this. I still can't fathom why admins get their notification and users don't get anything, but like you say above this could be down to different types of email.

Many thanks for your views on this, and lets hope we find a solution soon.

^DooM^

Hi Guys, New coppermine user here. This is the first time I have installed it, v1.4.4

The program works perfectly sends out e-cards etc but, registration emails do not work for me. Admins get notifications but users do not. Actually unlike you guys above my coppermine installation never gets to the thankyou for registering page. It just sits there and never gets any further.

It does register them though. I have tried with admin authentication on and off and various other settings but it still refuses to send new users registration emails or continue onto the thankyou page (Tried in FF and IE) :(

My email settings are correct, running on Fedora Core 4 with PHP4.4.2 on apache 2.2.0 with mysql 5.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Jon.

a link to your page might be a good start if you actually need help...

^DooM^

Actually the thankyou for registering page worked this time. So I am now at the same place as THoTH no user emails only admin.

GauGau, I do not wish to post my URL on a public forum. I will watch the forums for an eventual fix. I was merely adding my voice to this problem.
