Hello all coppermine users and admins,
I recently installed the gallery and have the following question. I created several categories in the gallery, but when I create an album as a user I cannot chose any of the categories. It is always placed in the user galleries. How can I make more categories available to the users?
Thanks

Nibbler

Create albums in the categories and allow uploads to them in album properties.

Maybe I didn't ask my question right......

In the window shown you can select the category of the album from a dropdown menu. At the same time my users do not have the option of a dropdown, it is just a line without options saying " user galleries "

Please read the manual in order to understand how Coppermine works.

There is, however, a special category named "User galleries". This category can't be deleted. If a user belongs to the group "can have a personal gallery" and this is set to YES, he will have the right to create his own albums and his gallery will be a sub-category of "User galleries". This link is not visible to visitors of your site, however, if you do not allow users to upload pics and have their own albums.

The administrator can create albums in any category. Non-administrative users can only create albums in the "User galleries/Their_username".

And the question is, if I as an admin create caetgories, how can users put their albums in this categories, not in the user galleries. The update album does not give the users an option to change the category.
Thanks

maybe the question here is more correct..... I as an admin created categories. How can users upload in them after they have albums, etc?

Nibbler

They can't create albums. That's what that line says. Once you create the albums you allow uploads to them in album properties as previously explained. I don't understand what the problem is here.

toni1

OK, once more I try to express my question.
When users put images/albums they go to user galleries. I want to create an internal organization like animals, people, fun, etc. and people to choose to which category their album belongs.
I hope i made myself clear this time....

toni1

As a user I choose create /order my albums, and there is no menu inside to choose the category of the album....

Nibbler

Users can only create albums inside the user galleries category, nowhere else. If that doesnt answer your question you will need to wait for another supporter to help you.

This does answer the question.  So users are not allowed to post picure albums in any other category other than "User Gallery".  This should be fixed because people want to put thier pictures under the proper categories for organization.  I belong to a motorcycle website called R1 forum .com and in their you can upload a picture to any category they have.  As a user you cannot create categories, but you can upload to any that are already created.  The program they use is PhotoPost PHP Pro.  Can Coppermine be changed to allow users to put thier albums in any category besides "User Gallery" only?

Joachim Müller

create the albums for your users in public categories. This is not something that needs "fixing", it's a feature: most coppermine admins would hate it to have every moron create an album at will inside their category structure.

toni1

Yes, sounds to me like a feature, but why not have it? Different admins different preferences.... I personaly would like my users to categorize their albums, will look like a neat directory of pictures

You're free to code it yourself or hire someone to do it.
