How do you get the thumbnails of the images to go in order? It says you have to manualy edit it. I tried all of the different descening and ascending. I tried putting in auto. also when i upload the pics and put them into the albums there backwards. I dont want to have to manualy put them in order it takes to much time. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?

do as I suggested. You only posted a link, while I requested two more things.

two things out of three I requested isn't good enough for me. I'm out of this thread, as I don't like to see my time wasted.

Gilly

i'm sorry but i dont know what a non-admin test user account means. you dont have to be rude.

Gilly

ok i see what you mean now i registered as a new use non-admin and here is a screen cap

GauGau actually meant that you need to set up a new user in Coppermine who is not an administrator and post that username and password here as a "test user" for the supporters to use.  (Hence a "non-admin test user account".)  That's requested for nearly every support question because it can be very useful.

Looking at your site as a guest, the sorting works fine.  Keep in mind that the album you linked has 3 photos, all 3 of which have no titles, so the title sorting doesn't do anything.  The date and filename sorting works fine.

Gilly

hmm i have no idea how to do that. and i had a whole album full of pics and they never went in order. the sorting was all messed up. i just dont get it.

Paver

How to do what?

I looked at some other albums and they seem to sort fine as well.  It looks like you don't have titles for any of your photos, so make sure you are not mistaking a non-working title sort with the fact that there are no titles to sort.

Maybe I'm confused about what your original question was.  I'm talking about the title, date, filename, and position plus and minus buttons in the upper right corner of the thumbnail view of an album.  Clicking on those plusses and minuses lets me sort the album how I like.  If you don't want users to sort your albums for themselves, you need to remove those buttons (I think that's done in your theme but I'm not sure).

In any case, are you instead talking about the default sort order?  That's set in the config panel to Title, Name, Date, or Position.  How do you want to sort your files?  You need to pick something to sort with.  If you have a custom sort order you want applied and don't want to do it in Coppermine, the easiest way is to name the files "001_Bird.jpg", "002_Cat.jpg", etc. then set Coppermine to sort by Name ascending.

Gilly

the other albums go in order bescasue i had to manualy put the in order it seems to be the only way. what i want is for the images to go in order with the file names.

if you notice the images go

BLEAK_HOUSE_D1-3.jpg
BLEAK_HOUSE_D1-0.jpg
BLEAK_HOUSE_D1-1.jpg

it should go 1-0 1-1 then 1-3. and even when i upload the pics and then put them into the albums they are backwards when adding them in.

Paver

Go to your CONFIG panel.  Scroll down to and click on Thumbnail View.  Go to "Default Sort Order for Files".  My guess is that it is currently set to "Title ascending".  You need to set it to "Name ascending".

It sorts correctly by filename as you say when I do it manually using the Name + link on your site.

Gilly

ok wow that works only thing is my other images don't go in order. like in here

http://www.ladylondon.chez-milagro.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=29

it goes baftas, baftas10, baftas11, baftas 12 etc.

Paver

That's "normal" filename sorting.  It's alphanumeric not just numeric, so the order is:

  • 1
  • 10
  • 11
  • 2
  • 20
  • etc.

You need to use as many digits as you might have files and put zeroes in appropriately - i.e. 001, 002, 003, ... , 010, ...

An awesome file renaming tool for Windows is THE Rename.

Gilly

yea thats true. but i see other coppermine gallerys and they go like 001 002 003 etc. the renaming tool i would have to reupload the images after they are renamed?

Paver

You can rename them using FTP, but then you need to "update" the files in Coppermine so it knows to look at the new filenames.  You could use the plugin "File Replacer" to do so.  When you rename the files, you'll have broken images, but then you use the File Replacer plugin to replace each photo with the new one.  You'd have to do this one at a time, as that is the only way the plugin works right now.

So yes, it might be easier to delete the photos, rename them locally, then upload these new files and add them into the albums again.
