Album/photo counts have disappeared

I don't know if this is by design but I've searched the forums and can't find a solution to this new problem:

I have 3 categories that I want users to be able to upload to, so I changed the permissions (for all of them) under "Album can be viewed by" to "Members of the 'Registered' group", and then set "Visitors can upload files" to "Yes".

The strange thing is that the number of albums and photos for these 3 categories no longer appears on the home page. Before changing the permissions (from "Members of the 'Administrators' group" for viewed by, and "No" for uploading files) the album and photo counts appeared on the home page.

Is this normal or is something wrong?

Think I fixed it:

I had a look at the cpg_albums table and noticed the change in visibility. I set it back to "0" and now the album and photo counts appear on the front page again.
