Hello I am new to this whole type of layout thing, but I have grown tired of the limits I could do on my own with html. Now I am pretty decent with html and some php but I am stumped as to what I am suppose to do to get this whole thing up and running. I installed the index.php to my server on angelfire and all it shows is the directions from the other index page I loaded. I do not want to edit any coding because I do not wish to mess anything up. So if anyone could get on a messenger or help me on here with some kind of walk through I would be very appreciative.

Thank you for your time.

Ok I got it all loaded thanks for the link to the video. Now is their a video on how to edit this stuff info a index page and what not? All I need to know now is where to get the codes used for this type of stuff and how to make my site look somewhat like this: http://www.animegalleries.net

Take a look through the manual. Using Coppermine is vastly different to handcoding a site so it's worth reading.

Joachim Müller

Not sure that Coppermine can be run on Angelfire. There have been reports that they don't have the minimum requirements.

Google "installing coppermine"  "coppermine tutorial" "coppermine howto" etc, there are resources spread around the net.

What these guys failed to do, was to explain that the whole coppermine ".zip" file, should be unpacked into a working and web accessible directory, creating a new directory under that one.
- After that, you need to make sure that you have php support on the web server and that php can talk to a database.
- After that make sure you have a mysql database up and running and that can be connected to from the host running the web site.
- After that make sure you have set the proper read/write access rights on the correct directories.
- After that, you gotto make sure you have ImageMagic installed (on linux the binary is called "convert" ) and that it is accessible by the web server and that php is not running in safe mode (in other words, that it can indeed run the exec() call with no problems).

- After that they should have told you to run the setup.php in your browser to continue with the install and configuring.

(How about putting something like that into your FAQ? )

K !
You can find all these information under documentation that comes with CPG package also you can find it here on top links (documentation & FAQ)
http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#installation
http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/faq.htm

And Also there isn't any setup.php At all ::) I think you mean install.php , BTW CPG will redirect you to install.php for first time ;)

Are you googling for your new Mobile phone that comes with printed manual !!?
‍I don't answer to PM with support question
Please post your issue to related board

The Coppermine docs are there to inform you how to install Coppermine, not how to setup an entire webserver.

znapper

Yes, I ment the install.php file .

I am uttery aware that you cannot provide a setup guide on how to set up a whole system per se, however, I feel you have an obligation to put fourth the information needed by newcommers so that they understand what this is, and what it is not.

Typing two lines explaining the prerequsites and requirements for the coppermine web sollution to be able to run is something that should not be on page 8663 in some dumb whitepaper, it should be the first thing people see when they open a FAQ.

- What is it

- What is it not

- What do I need to get this up and running

- Where can I find the information needed to get the prerequsites up and running

Simple, to the point, short and with a reference to google would save you and this forum for a LOT of "unwanted" support cries.

You can find a description what Coppermine is and what the minum requirements are on the project home page and at the top of the docs. You can't blame us for third-party resources that you found somehwere on the internet by googling. We're fond to hear recommendations for the improvement of our docs, but we're reluctant to listen to invalid rants by someone who didn't read the most obvious resources first.

znapper

Look,

I know that you don't like critisism too much, and that's ok.

What I am saying is, in between the 350 line long frontpage there is a tiny line there saying requirements, overshadowed by the sentence "Web Server + PHP + MySQL + IM/GD = CPG!"

I am aware that you have the requirements on there, what I am saying is, people dosen't see it (obviously), what do people to next, FAQ.

Stick it in an own sentence at the very top, where you tell people to RTFM, that is all I'm saying.

"Coppermine requires a webserver with php support, a mysql database, and a image convert program like ImageMagic or GD, we only support Coppermine, refer to the other projects homepages for questions and problems conserning those".
- The project team

I am not ranting, I am telling you that you have a communication problem if most peoples questios are not related to your product, I am not saying coppermine sucks, I love it.
