Unable to view all albums

I have Coppermine Photo Gallery installed on three different websites.  One has suddenly gone awry.  I have it set to:
breadcrumb/catlist/alblist,4/lastalb,4

But it won't give me the little buttons to click to view "more" albums.  So, I've had to reset it to:
breadcrumb/catlist/alblist,16/lastalb,16

in order for members to access the albums currently in use.

Any ideas?  I'm using v1.4.8

Main page meta albums are not supposed to paginate, they are just a sample. That's why there are special links provided in the navbar that do.
