Specify Main Category Thumbnail From Sub-Category Album

Hi there,
I have a main category with no albums directly in it but lots of sub-categories underneath it. Is it possible to set a thumbnail for the main category from a thumbnail contained within an album in one of the sub-categories?
I've had a look but can't see how I can do do so.

Hi,
I tried this but no thumbnail is appearing for the main category. It works fine for the sub-categories but no luck for the main category.

Is there anything in config that could be causing this etc?

However, it doesn't appear to show anything. Do I need to change something in the theme so that a category with no albums still displays a thumb?
