FTP upload and automatic album creation

I don't know if this is a feature request or just a question for how to do it (what mod to use) but after uploading pics with FTP to the gallery, is there any way to use the directory names as album names for the images = can I upload a lot of images in a directory hierarchy and make this a album hierarchy somehow? It would be nice if you could do this at least for one directory at the time at least?

A problem is of course how to add new ones so that the old ones don't get re-added.

Has anyone done this/planned to do this/wanted to do this?
