Okay...my installation is complete and I have a friend willing to upload some pics for us to test out our settings, adjust the thumbnail and image sizes arrange things to our liking.

I sent him the url and he says how do i register. I looked.... nothing on the top of the home page that says register, and nothing like FAQ or Help Please tell me what I did wrong.

Ideally I would like people to email me for permission to register, right now --  since we are still testing this out. Later on I would like people to be able to register themselves, as long as we can kick them out if they act up.

I havent found any **user** how tos.... did I miss uploading a file?

TIA,
klew

Have a look in Config>User settings Check the option for "Allow new user registrations"

The help text says:
Quote
Defines whether new users can self-register or not. If you set this to NO, only the admin can create new users and the "register" link won't be displayed in the navigation.
Allow unlogged users (guest or anonymous) access

When set to "No", unlogged users (i.e. guests or anonymous users) can not access anything in your gallery except the login screen (and the registration screen, if you allow registrations). Completely disabling anonymous access will probably decrease your site's popularity. Use this option only if you need your gallery to be absolutely private. The recommended setting is to leave anonymous access enabled and use the more specific permissions by groups and albums settings instead.

[cpg1.4.0 or better required]

Thanks!  We got it to work. (Something tells me I shouldn't work on my site after bedtime!)
Now off to read what there is to be found about permissions for batch uploads.

Another day....another twist in the road.
