what is the maximum database size

I have a problem, my coppermine is becomming real slow. I did an export and the size was aprox 32 Mb. I have 33.000 photo's in my database.
My question, is there a way to speed things up?

Yes, remove the number of items shown on home page and remove the statistics being shown. Search the board and you will get the detailed answers.
