Hi everebody.

First I would like to give a Great "THANK YOU" to the people behind Coppermine.
Just recently I learned about Coppermine. I have installed a few different galleries, but Coppermine is - with no doubt - the BEST  ;D

There is one litle thing I would like to change:
I have some video files in wmv format.
Is it possible to change the standard thumbnail so instead it would show the first frame in the videofile?
I cant find the option in the admin control panel.

I Hope You can help me.

Kind Regards

Welcome to the support board of CPG. You can use this board to search and ask for support ;) in that order.
First try and search the board and then, if you really find nothing you can use, post your support request. Be sure to read the documentation thoroughly and try to keep in mind that the support is done by volunteers, so it takes some time before you get an answer sometimes.

Your question is partially answered in the documents. http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#cust_thmb
Read it and find out how to implement your custom thumbs. I could not find anything which does what you want but i can imagine it does put some strain on a server.

Have fun with CPG

the modpack helps you uploading your custom thumbs and is able to watermark the thumbs (with eg. 'movie' or similar).

Hello

This is what I did to get the effect I wanted:

Using Windows Moviemaker I saved pictures from each wmv file.
Uploaded the saved jpg pictures and batched them to the albums where the wmv file where placed.
Then the wmv files used the pictures thumbnail, but each album now displayed both picture and wmv.
This did not look good.
Therefore I downloaded the Coppermine created thumbnails with my FTP program, deleted the jpg pictures in Coppermine, uploaded the thumbnails.....

Now the wmv files use the thumbnails earlier created by Coppermine. There is no extra pictures in the Albums.
It works  ;D

I am using 1.4.10 and am also having trouble adding thumbnails to videos I have read every post I can find and the easy to understand instruction sheet and still am not having much luck.

The first video I added a thumb to worked like a charm. I moved the thumbnail into an album titled thumbnails in the same catagory set it to admin viewable only and it still works great.

Now I've tried adding more videos and can not get anather one to load the thumb. They do have sim names to the first but have a different number on each end, matching thumb_file name w/ differing img extension.

I've tried uploading in every way possible, in the same folder-different folders, batch load seperate and together, vid first thumb second reverse, I even removed the first tried the second and nothin, the first vid-reloads with thumb every time I try it. Both vids .mov both thumbs .jpg.

Any ideas for what to try next?

Thanks, BRD-75

I believe I've solved my own problem. I deleted the vids that were causing trouble and started over with them.

Redownloaded, renamed (small caps only), uploaded video to Cpg followed by thumb into an empty hidden/private folder and it worked. I then moved the video to the user specific folder and moved the thumb to a hidden/private "thumbnail" folder.

I'm not sure how I've made anything confusing.

Some instructions I read made it seem as if the thumbnail had to remain in the same album that the video was in.

My goal was to have a hidden "upload" album for uploading and storing videos that are in the works that others users would not be able to see until I was ready to place them in the albums I created for individual users. I also wanted the thunbnails to be in a seperate hidden album, not in my upload album and not in the user's albums so I created a "thumbnail" album and set it to admin access only.

I'm still under the impression that you have to upload the thumb into the exact album that the video is in to get them to link.

No, you don't add the thumbnails to the gallery atall. You just make them and upload them (via FTP) to the same directory on the filesystem as the originals. Albums are not involved.

BRD-75

Ah ok, thanks Nibbler, that's easy.

It didn't dawn on me that they only needed to be in the same directory file and now it makes sense to how they worked by putting them in anather album in effect, loading them into the filesystem.

When I used the ftp to upload I attempted to batch load them into the gallery and the img files were dissapearing, now I see why. They should have worked, I think the reason they didn't was due to capitilized extension names.
