Question about Full Size Images

(I have searched many times for an answer or an equivalent to this.)

I know how to add a message under the image, e.g., to say "Click to Enlarge." But, is it possible to have that message only when there are enlargeable images, without a plugin--because I've also searched the plugins--, but by editing theme.php, or would it be necessary to write a plugin? (Something that I am not savvy enough to do.)

Because, it makes no sense to have a "Click to Enlarge." message when the image is not enlargeable.
