Wanted to try out Coppermine, but stumbled at the first hurdle.
On WinXP, have installed the pre-requisites, but cannot login to my coppermine account:

Installed c:\mysql - changed nothing, ran 'net start mysql' to get it running.

Ran the coppermine install.php, created admin account with user jxmac18 and a password.
Created a mysql account as:
MySQL host: localhost
MQSQL Database: mysql
MySQL User: odbc
MySQL Password: <no password>

This runs ok, but then trying to login at login.php none of the accounts work - just says 'Couldn't log in.'

I can see it's connecting to the mysql database. I can see the tables were created in the mysql default database.

I get the same problem if I create a new database directly within mysql (create database webphotos), or if I create an account within mysql with a password.

I've tried editing the config.inc directly to change the login values aswell, but have no way of telling if its working.

Is there a log file anywhere that will give me more info.

Hope you guys can help, already spent 4 hours trying to get this installed and working, would hate to waste that effort.

Thanks
Jack

XP/MySQL setup is rather picky (or not picky enough, to be honest).

You need to open the WinMySQLAdmin window (look for the traffic signal in the system tray).  Find the 'Local User Name' and enter this as the User name.  Then click on the my.ini setup tab and look for the port value (default 3306). You will then enter the MySQL server value for Coppermine as 127.0.0.1:3306. (Substitute the port number for your own.)  Leave the password blank. (Doubt this is the true source of the problem as your database tables are being created.)

Check the privacy settings in your browser to make sure you are accepting cookies.  Also, check to make sure your password and username have the correct spelling/capitalization.

Excellent!

Using the "Local User Name" from WinMYSQLadmin did the trick.... real bugger too my dynamic dns had locked out at the same time, and I'd also been forced to upgrade Java to 1.4.2 - too much confusion.

But at least now it's all working I can go play.  Only a hundred or so pictures to load off Express thumnail - so am hoping this does the trick!

thanks for your help - prompt response too!

Lovin' this software so far... Possibly one of the most useful pieces of software I've ever downloaded - am amazed and grateful that you guys are able to keep it freeware.
Am hooked, already dumped 300 photos from thailand into it. Don't wanna stop... the slideshow is an excellent feature.  Finding some photos don't display except for their thumbnail, but will have to play more.

Can't wait to release it!

Was still fairly wary that the MySQL database didn't have a password attached to it, and everytime I'd interacted with mysql directly to set the passwords, I locked out coppermine and had even reinstalled mysql to recover it (because I wasn't updating them correctly I'd guess).

I saw the phpMyAdmin tool recommended elsewhere here, installed it, and it also advised there were no passwords set on the database. Easily updated all the passwords (and the config.inc for phpMyAdmin), and updated the config.inc in coppermine with the same password. Happier with the extra security.

Given that my apache webserver was being hacked into within seconds of installing it behind the firewall (all failed attempts), this seemed pretty important - some people seem desparate to find out whats on your PC.... they can take it all if they want to ask first.
