Create intermediate pictures, question

Hey cpg team,

I was wondering if im taking a shortcut or if there is a better way to create intermediate pictures "after" ive added alot of pictures to my gallery without having "create intermediate pictures" on.

Currently what im doing is to: admin tools > Update thumbs and/or resized photos (1) > Only resized pictures

This works but it makes the process very long since it actually re-creates every fullsize image to, all i want is to create intermediate pictures. Ideas?
