Hi,

I'm sorry but I have got stuck right at the beginning. I've been following the tutorial at http://coppermine-gallery.net/tutorial/download.php and have got to the third part where I am shown how to upload my Coppermine files to my webserver. Unfortunately, I simply don't get it. I am using cPanel and my hosting provider is hostpapa.com. In cPanel, I have gone to my File Manager, and I see my directory. Within this, I have clicked on public_ftp. Am I going right so far, or am I meant to be somewhere else entirely?! Do I now create a file called Coppermine within this? How then do I upload all the Coppermine files from my laptop's hard drive to the webserver? I can't see a way to do the lot in one go. Do I have to manually create all the folders and sub-folders and upload each constituent file one by one? Or am I way off target here?! Any assistance would be hugely appreciated!!

Cheers,

Robin

Way off target I'm afraid.

First you will need to find out your ftp account details from whithin cpanel. While in there find out you MySql details as you will ned them during install.

Then download and install filezilla (http://filezilla-project.org/), or other suitable ftp app.

Once you have correctly connected with filezilla you can simple drag and drop the coppermin files into your target folder.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Thanks for this, Phill.

In the lag time between my post and your reply, I noticed that the Coppermine files were actually already inside the www folder inside my directory. I guess this must be because I had unknowingly uploaded everything when I had selected Coppermine within Fantastico De Luxe. What I am now wondering is whether they should be here or within the public_ftp folder.

Also, given what I have just told you, do I still need to install Filezilla?

Cheers!

I would recommend that you not upload your coppermine files into public_ftp.

Filezilla is still useful for uploading your photos to your coppermine gallery.

Yes, install filezilla and delete the files installed by fantastico. The fantastico installer is known to cause many problems so download the files from this site and upload and install them the way suggested in the docs. It is very easy and doing it this way will serve you well in the future as you will be able to upgrade, add themes, mods and plugins etc with ease.

Thanks again, very useful advice.

Now that you mention adding themes, do I need to be looking at something to do with this in order to integrate my Coppermine albums into the interface of my own website? What I actually want to do is display a slideshow on one of my pages next to some text about what the photos relate to. I think I ought to ask this question here in order to ensure I don't go way off track again! I am not managing to get my head around the steps given at http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#theme_create and am not sure that I am even in the right place.

There is a one question per thread policy on this board. It is in place to make it easier for people to find answers to their questions.

Once you have got coppermine running post a thread in the relavent section. What you are asking can easily be done but you need to get the basics installed first
