I uploaded an avi movie to the gallery,
when opening its page, the movie doesnot realtime stream, instead, it downloads and begins playing after the file download is completely finished
What have i done wrong?

Stramm

Install a streaming server for that.

mrmknet

I had already installed ffmpeg before posting. Is ffmpeg a wrong choice?

Stramm

You'd need to install it on your server.
http://www.ffmpeg.org/ffserver-doc.html

But that's not coppermine related at all. It's a server setup question.

mrmknet

Of course i meant i installed it on the server...
but that changed nothing

Stramm

Hvae you read the docs I posted? Especially 1.3 and 1.5

mrmknet

QuoteWARNING: trying to stream test1.mpg doesn't work with WMP as it tries to transfer the entire file before starting to play. The same is true of AVI files.

So ffmpeg is not for my case, what should I go for?

Stramm

Maybe someone else has experience with streaming solutions and is willing to answer you. I just know, that VLC has a streaming solution that is capable to handle mpeg1,2,4.

Not related to Coppermine though. Try googling for issues related to streaming and server-sided requirements. To test if streaming works, use a straightforward client app that supports streaming - preferably a dedicated multimedia app like Windows Media Player or similar. Keep in mind as well that avi is a container extension. Avis need codecs to work, and there are thousands of them. Not a wise choice to use avi imo.
