I thank you in advance for your patience, as I am probably just overlooking information that is staring me right in the face. I want the coppermine gallery to function like this:
users can upload into the various categories, which are mediums used in creating their work. (watercolor, oils, sculptures, etc.) I have tried creating these groups, and allocating disk space to the groups. I experimented by uploading artwork into watercolor, and it looks like it works, but if you select watercolor from the main page it says there are no images to view. Site is thealaskaartists.com/coppermine

Not sure I understand the question. Groups and categories are not the same thing. You have a watercolour category at the moment where I think you want an album. Pictures go into albums and albums go into categories. You can't upload directly into a category. Groups are used to have different levels of users, such as administrators, members etc.
