I use something called IDS (http://ids.sourceforge.net/) but it is not currently being developed. It isn't php, either.  One thing that it has that I really like is the dropdown image resizer. Does Coppermine do this? I haven't seen it in the demo or on the features list but I just found it tonight and confess that I haven't examined it thoroughly yet.

You can see my gallery using IDS here: http://gallery.opalcat.com to see what I mean.

Hello,
I seek a script which allows the management of a contest photo monthly multi albums:

- Several albums -
-  management of using with single vote by album!!! -

- the posteurs cannot put more than one photograph by album -
-  stats visible or not
- Palmarés
- controls photographs by admin
- free script ;o).
...
thank for your assistance

Joachim Müller

@marc.r: in this thread we do feature comparison, we do not recommend other software. Please don't try to hijack threads!

I don't know if that was addressed to me or not, but in case it was I want to clarify... I'm trying to find a replacement for IDS and want to know if those particular features are supported in Coppermine. IDS is no longer being developed (and hasn't been for years) and it's perl based besides.

I'm still wanting to know if Coppermine has a feature that lets you view images in a range of sizes--that's an important feature to me. Just a thumbnail and a large version isn't enough.

photoman13

there are 3 sizes you can get from Coppermine (correct me if I'm wrong)

-Thumbnail
-Intermediate
-Normal

Only time Intermediate is bypassed is when the normal picture uploaded was under say about 550 pixels wide. (something like that)

When you click a thumbnail.. it'll send you to the intermediate picture.. if they like they can click on the intermediate, and see the full sized photo.

Hope that helps. You can look in the test gallery here on this site to see the layout, or click on the MANY people here that have links to their galleries.

I think you'll be mighty impressed :)

OpalCat

Hrm. That is pretty limited. I also see that it opens the image in a new window... I assume that could be turned off?

One thing that I like about IDS is that if you choose to resize an image, say to 640... you then see all images at that resolution until you change it again. You don't have to click each image a second time to see full size... and no new windows are opened.

(I actually had looked in the demo gallery before, but hadn't clicked on any pictures large enough to have the larger size available, so I didn't know it was an option.)

To give an example of how IDS's sizing works, you can see a page here: http://tinyurl.com/2ecdg  --click on one of the images.

Some of the things that bother me about IDS:
--not php
--no ability to add comments to movie or sound files or have individual icons for movies or sound--I don't care if it won't generate them, but I'd like to have the option of making my own and having them display.
--no hit tracking, popularity ranking, etc
--no ability to have user-uploaded galleries
--the way it does themes is fairly clunky
--won't "autoplay" a slideshow
--no random feature
--no a postcard feature

Some of the things I like:
--image resizing
--will display any filetype you tell it to
--very easy to add photos--just FTP them into a directory and it generates albums based on that directory structure. I can also put the same file in multiple albums by just making a symlink in my shell, which is handy.

looks kinda messy to me...

one thing I like about Coppermine, the pages don't look so messy :)

*GauGau clears throat* Folks,

may I remind you of the thread's subject? It's "Feature comparison", not "flaming" nor "feature requests" nor "support".

GauGau

OpalCat

Errr... I thought I was comparing the features of IDS? Who was flaming or asking for support? Wow... if the admins of this site are that unfriendly I'm saying my goodbyes--I won't be returning nor using your software. I'm sure I can find a similar product that doesn't employ the gestapo as moderators. Sheesh.

photoman: I find your comment hilarious because I feel the same way about Coppermine! One thing that I said when I was looking at it was "I wonder how much I could customize this to make it look less cluttered?" LOL! It's all about what you're used to, I guess

Joachim Müller

Hm sorry, I was wrong: you aren't flaming with the "gestapo" posting, you're insulting.

Have a nice day...

GauGau

Fking

I have to choose one of them.....if you ignore the fact that the one is paid
what will be your advice?

which is better, more flexible, with more features, skins and etc?
help me to decide..........

Joachim Müller

hm, wrong board to post such a question in - what do you expect if you ask such a question on the coppermine forums ;)?
What answer would you expect on the menalto gallery forums...?
All galleries have pros and cons, make a feature list and decide for yourself which feature is a must-have for you, then decide.
Imo there's only one other gallery besides coppermine that's worth paying attention to, and that's menalto gallery, all others have much less features.

Take a chill pill, GauGau!  I agree with OpalCat, your demeanor, especially for someone who is supposed to be an "Administrator", leaves a lot to be desired.  If you think that OpalCat is rude, you should look in the mirror sometime.  "Flaming"?  You should know what that word means, as you appear to be an expert in that field.

Maybe one of the image gallery features we should be comparing is the level of courtesy the support personnel demonstrate.

How the heck do I unsubscribe to this garbage?

Don't bother I will be courteous enough and ban you if your contribution to the community continues to be of the type of previous message.

Considering the gestapo comment directed at Gaugau, a German, I find it very insulting and insensitive as well.  Try posting 4460 support messages to a forum with an average of nearly 20 per day.

Gaugau is doing a tough job and doing it well....

Ouch! I had saved a copy somewhere...

Does any of the other devs have a copy?
