I would be obliged if someone who has used various leading picture / image galleries can write a feature Vs feature comparision for Coppermine Picture Gallery

I am specially interested in comparision with other *commercially* available picture galleries - Photo Post is one such, there are bound to be others

Lastly - be brutally honest does not matter if it makes CPG appear bad :)

This article will hopefully find a place on the CPG website if found upto standards. Credit with thanks will be the sole remuneration...

Thanks in advance!

Last year I did a general comparison of feature using Gallery with other similar products.

http://gallery.menalto.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=1015&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

I also consider coppermine is another good php product hope that more useful features can be implemented and inspired other competitors as well.

LOL... what is funny is I should have done jsut that as I went wading through all the tools out there. I looked at literally hundreds....  I didn't look at that many on source forge, as most of the descriptions made them sound very limited in their capability.

I'll post my current list of notes and URLs... as you will notice coppermine is on the top 5 :-)  I'd like to see it #1. I left a posting on some features I'd like to see, that was done in a different thread.  I hope this is helpful to you.

Hre are some lists of galleries

I' also following the development of another gallery system: Exhibit Engine, a one-man (Pekka Saarinen) effort, especially geared toward digital photography.

It is full of features, but not so easy to setup.

EE 1.5 is a very good system for personal use although the setup is more complicated.  Pekka is a very very good photographer using Canon DC and he should understand more what's the needs of photographer for such a system.

The photo information page in EE is the most comprehensive one so far I see on php based gallery package.

For those interested, please take a look from the following URL:

Based on my previous experience of trial on several php based gallery package, I compiled a comparison matrix for reference:

Please let me know if there are some missing points or misunderstanding/mistakes.

Thanks!

This is an excellant start, and something we have wanted for sometime.  Thank you!  Now we just need a volunteer to keep this up to date.

What about zoph?  It deserves some sort of honorable mention, in that it is the only one I've seen which a viewer can click on an image until reaching the source, thereby allowing the web browser to resize the image.  Using the aforementioned link's comparison criteria:

4images (http://www.4homepages.de/) gallery or coppermine gallery?

which is better?

Casper

On this forum, there can only be one answer, but on the 4images forum you will get another.
There are many who have changed to coppermine from 4images.

But each user has different needs, so the the best thing is to look at both and see which comes closest before needing to modify.

I of course, say coppermine is the best available.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

Okay, I came across another one that I didn't see mentioned in this thread.  It is called JAlbum.  Although it isn't as extensive in the database area as zoph, and it is Java, it is more user-friendly.
