I'm not certain where to post this but I'm wondering how I can get a more professional looking profile page like most galleries or social networking sites have.  I would like to have the following in order of importance.

1) Comments
2) Blog
3) Profile pic (larger - 200x400, 300x300 etc)
4) RSS Feed
5) Newest pics - at least 4.
6) Favorites
7) Friends or watching/watched

Ideas:

1) Wait for 1.5 (anything like this in 1.5?)
2) Buy a bulletin board like VBulletin and then backwards engineer my current gallery to it somehow.
   A) If this is the answer - are there any tools for crowbarring in a new forum into an active gallery and then bridging to it?
3) Pay someone to build it.

Thanks for any help available. - John

What you are asking is not really what coppermine is about.

There are many cms packages you could bridge with that will provide this functionality but afaik, that is your only option unless you code it yourself.

Before you think about doing any of that, upgrade.

<!--Coppermine Photo Gallery 1.4.18 (stable)-->

That is a very old version with some known security issues. Unless you want to be hacked, upgrade today. The current version on this site is 1.4.25
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Use scripts that are meant for that purpose. Coppermine is a gallery, not a social network portal.

What I was looking for is a profile like the profiles found in most other art galleries.

Here are some popular art galleries, all of whom have profiles similar to what I was looking for.  I've provided links to a profile on each site so that you can see how their profiles are displayed.  Note that these ARE galleries, NOT social networking sites.

Coppermine is in many ways the equal to most professional sites with the major exception of a detailed and professional Profile page.  I want to provide my artists with an experience that they are used to finding in other galleries so upgrading the Profile page is mandatory.  I am willing to pay for it.

Peter: Thanks for your concern but I upgraded my gallery manually so the version is either the newest one or the one before.  CMS to bridge to?  "Content Management System" to bridge to?  What would be the best Content Management System?

Joachim Miller: The single recommendation from you, which was little more than flipping me off, was to get a different script.  I'm fully willing to spend a lot of money to buy professional quality art gallery software.  What would you recommend?

review your attitude.
MiniCMS may give you what your looking for. You may have to change some code to point to new profiles or the plugin may have to capability to edit the profile page, I don't know because I don't use it.
Post in here if you want to pay someone to do this for you.

You are very mistaken - your Coppermine version is old.

It was released 2008-08-03.

Your gallery is vulnerable to hacking - need any more be said?

Who is Peter?

In your case, once you have upgraded, you should post your request in the Freelancers section of this board as this is a custom integration and you are willing to pay for this to be done.

I have got no idea what application might fit your needs. I don't review other application, particularly not other paid applications.

Quotethe version number isn't upgraded unless I manually upgrade the version number
That's just wrong: if you perform an upgrade as suggested in the docs, the version number that shines through the output will be updated as well. You can easily remove the SVN version info section from your custom theme if you like, but it's unrelated to the version number of coppermine's core code.

QuoteIn order not to cause any more confusion I changed the version number to 2 Billion
Sure, whatever. Just make sure you tell the guys who might hack your site by exploiting a known vulnerability in older versions that they will take your smartass move into account. And don't forget to put a Ferrari sticker on your Volkswagen Beetle, maybe people will then be fooled into believing that you own a Ferrari ::).

QuoteBBS code will not work on this version of Coppermine though it did work with 1.4.18.
Yeah, sure. You're so right :o. You never wondered why the use of the bbcode tags [url] and [img] have been disabled? In case you want to find out: RTFM! I'm not going to argue with you about the need to upgrade. Just don't come here complaining after having been hacked.

Really?!  This is the way a mature adult acts?

I just checked showdoc.php on DeadlyAmazons.com and found:
// harden against expolits: check the requested vars, replace illegal chars
$file = stripslashes($file);
$forbidden_chars = array("..", "/", "%", "<", ">", "$", "'", '"');
$file = str_replace($forbidden_chars, '', $file);
$add_stylesheet = str_replace($forbidden_chars, '', $add_stylesheet);

This is the upgrade to 1.4.22!

Now I checked the official upgrade notice on the board:
http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,59247.0.html

It shows how to replace the code - there is NO MENTION of manually replacing the version number so I wouldn't upset Joachim.

"You never wondered why the use of the bbcode tags [url] and [img] have been disabled?"

WHAT?!?!  Did you even read what I said?  I said that BBS code would NOT work with the gallery even though it worked with 1.4.18.  The fact that BBS code will NOT work on my gallery PROVES that it ISN'T 1.4.18!  I upgraded it manually to AVOID the problems!

I'm just shocked that you would provide a manual method to upgrade open source code and then inexplicably and dogmatically act like that method simply doesn't exist.  It's baffling to say the least.

Another "baffling" and highly unethical behavior is vandalizing my response under my name.
