Hi - I recently updated a site to the new version - i now cannot access the category manager when logged in as any admin - i get the following -
"Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@****.co.uk and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Could anyone throw some light on this please?

It would be a lot easier to throw a light on it if you gave us the torch. In your case, the torch is a link to your site. Something required as per the board rules.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Sorry - the website in question is http://www.a1weddings.co.uk/cpg1412 - -it has just been updated to the new version.

phill104

Did it only fail once you updated and was working until then?

It currently looks like some files are missing. What ftp program did you use to upload the new files?

Hi - im not sure as it was for a client i did a cople of years ago- by the looks of things he hasnt added any categories - but im sure i would have test created one and deleted again before going live.
I used CuteFTP for the upload. Any ideas what files i should be looking for that may be missing please?

Have you run update.php?
(a1weddings.co.uk/cpg1412/update.php)

Also, can you see/access any error logs that might reside within the Coppermine root?

Have you run update.php?
Obviously not. I have run it for you (in cpg1.4.x anyone can trigger the database update by accessing that page).

Hi I did run the update but there is some conflicting infoprmation in the manual - it tells you not to overwrite anycontent.php and config.inc.php files and then below it says:

"Please note: as there have been changes both in the coppermine files and the database from cpg1.4.0 or better to cpg1.4.25, users of older versions than cpg1.4.25 will have to apply all steps mentioned above: both the files have to be replaced and the update.php script has to be run once."

which to me says that you do have to overwrite them - i only overwrote the anycontent anyway - but i do have backups of both. I would have thought that config.inc.php has all the connection details and settings. ???

The error log is attached - but im a bit unsure what it all means.
And what happens if you run the update more than once by the way?

Thanks for the help so far.

How do you think running update.php will overwrite your config and anycontent files?

We would like the manual to be as concise as possible. As such we are always glad to hear what you think could improve it. As far as I can see the manual is quite clear in this area. It is always hard however for an experienced user to see how a less experienced user reads the same information.

It wasnt the update i was talking about - it was the ftp upload to replace the files - every file except Albums Folder and the 2 files mentioned.

sorry dont know exactly what the php update actually does - - i followed the instructions as laid out in the documentation, but - yes - i am an inexpereienced user of coppermine- but im not a complete thicko - my main thing is Wordpress and Joomla so i am familiar with this type of thing. - and as i read the documentation it states on one hand dont overwrite the files and than at the bottom it tells you to overwrite the files.
Maybe i am missing something here - but this is the way it reads. I will highlight in bold what I mean...

First, make a backup (dump) of your database.
Backup your include/config.inc.php file, your anycontent.php file and your "albums" directory. Unpack the archive
Except for the "albums" directory, upload all of the new files and directories making sure not to overwrite the include/config.inc.php file, your anycontent.php file or the albums directory.
Run the file "update.php" in the coppermine directory once in your browser (e.g. http://yourdomain.tld/coppermine/update.php). This will update your coppermine install by making all necessary changes in the database.
If you have made a custom theme, apply the changes that were introduced in the themes structure to your custom-made theme - refer to the theme-upgrade guide.
Please note: as there have been changes both in the coppermine files and the database from cpg1.4.0 or better to cpg1.4.25, users of older versions than cpg1.4.25 will have to apply all steps mentioned above: both the files have to be replaced and the update.php script has to be run once.

is this both the include/config.ini.php and the anycontent.php.
This is very confusing.

Besides, this i think this may have gone off track a little - i was interested to know which files you may have thought were missing as in your previous post. Thanks

Do you still get the same error?

Have you run version check? (login >> admin tools >> check versions)

Any other trouble/issues with the installation?

Is it possible for you to create another admin account to see if that account can access the cat. manager?

shonkyboy

Ah  - this might be something to do with it:
include/config.inc.php n/a n/a
include/config.inc.php.sample

they are not showing.

shonkyboy

Cat mgr.php reports the following:
catmgr.php 1.4.25 1.4.25 5997 5997

so it would appear that it is there and up to date - there are a few N/as for some files though - but a lot of these look like template files that i am not using .
It says that there is on Mandatory file missing - but i cant setermine which one as it is not highlighted and it wont report which it is.,

I have certed 2 more admin accounts and still get the inernal server error. :(

Were there any issues prior to the upgrade?
What was the version you have upgraded from?
What drove/motivated you to upgrade?
Can you access album manager, add/delete albums and........

...are there any .htaccess files present that should not be there? Coppermine by itself doesn't have any .htaccess files.

[edit to prevent runaway thread]
Assumption is that you have replaced catmgr.php with another copy. Be certain to use binary mode for your ftp transfers. Redo or double check your downloading/unzipping/uploading of your Coppermine. Make sure of file integrity and encoding throughout the process. [/edit]

How is the category manager related to http uploads?
