after uploading several photos, i noticed the quality of my pictures become slightly blurry... why does this happen? i have enough space so what else could be the problem?

maybe you webhost has changed image library settings (most webhosts don't notify customers on server upgrades). Check phpinfo what image library and version you have (GD 1 or GD 2) and compare those settings to your coppermine config. A link to your "blurry" pics might help as well...

My pictures do lose a bit of quality when they are uploaded. How do I check phpinfo?

make a file called "info.php" with the following code:
<?php phpinfo(); ?>
Upload it to your server then run it from your browser.
Make sure when your done to delete it. :)

Everfresh

Alot of info came back. Under gd, this is what I found:
QuoteGD Support enabled
GD Version bundled (2.0.17 compatible)
FreeType Support enabled
FreeType Linkage with freetype
GIF Read Support enabled
JPG Support enabled
PNG Support enabled
WBMP Support enabled
XBM Support enabled

Right now, my method for resizing images is set at ImageMagick. So I'm going to try switching to GD 2x :?
I noticed the blurry pictures are only the resized ones, like the thumbnails. When you click on the full picture it's clear.

What have you set your compression ratio to?

Changing it to GD didn't work.

I don't know what the compression ratio is set to. Where can I find this information?

I see something that says quality of jpeg images and it's set at 80.

Casper

In the 'config' admin page, look for 'Quality for JPEG files'. This would normally be about 75 - 85. Lower numbers will give porrer quality.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

like I said in my previous posting: please give a link to your blurry pics, so we can have a look...

The quality for jpeg files was already set to 80. I took it up to 85 and nothing changed.

I haven't posted a link for my gallery yet because it's a private gallery, for my family :? But thanks anyway, I guess I can live with it.

I wonder... (Don't do this Everfresh yet unless they say it might work) but I wonder..

since he had Coppermine set to ImigeMagick and his server didn't have it on there... and when he uploaded his photos and it trying to do the compressions with a non-existant program. if he just deleted the pics and reuploaded them, now that he's got it set to GDVer2. And judging from the info he's posted, seems to be correct.

Would the 'quality' depend on the program used... like since he had it set for ImageMagick and the program wasnt' there, would it still use the GDver2 program to make the thumbs and normal_ pics?

Casper

Nothing will change for the existing pics, until you use the re-size tool to re-build the thumbs and intermediates. This will use the new settings, and the currently set tool, i.e., GD.

There is no need to delete and reupload the originals, unless you deleted them before.

Ahh thanks Casper :)

Thee ya go Everfresh, use the re-size tool and have it redo the smaller files now that you got the settings right... and maybe that will fix your blurry pics :)

don't reply to outdated threads that deal with outdated coppermine versions. You're using cpg1.4.4, so you should post on the board that deals with your coppermine version. Locking this thread.
