Hi :)

If you also do not think that the Smilies come along in the comments in 1.5. x a little bit stalely. How it would be to start for the cpg1.5.x new Smilies, e.g., http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,37641.msg177459.html#msg177459.

The idea to have a new set of smilies is not bad, but the set you propose can't be used because it's of unknown origin. We need to know where the smiley set comes from and under what license they are. I'm pretty sure that I have seen those smilies already and I'm sure that the person who posted them in the thread you refered to didn't create them, so he's not the owner. Sure, he didn't claim to be the owner, so I won't blame him. But we need a bit more than just a zip archive with some graphical files in it.
There has been a feature freeze for cpg1.5.x quite some time ago, so your request comes a tad bit late as well...

Sitki

The Smilies might come from the following side.
Kolobok smiles
or.
Koloboks

If is only one proposal what they make with it, is of course your thing.

Replacing the smileys would be okay from my side, even in the feature freeze stage. There is no impact in the way how Coppermine works. If there won't be new smiley graphics in cpg1.5.x, it's already possible to create a plugin that uses alternative emoticons and adds some new emoticons as well.

That would be cool if we stuck to a standard naming convention so all the BB smiley pack for SMF etc could be chosen by the user. Maybe something to think about for future coppermine versions would be to include smileys as part of the theme engine.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

As an alternative.
Xenos SmileyKit

Package and web site do not seem to have clear information about licenses and/or terms of use.

CPG devs and users would probably want true open source that would not have restrictions for usage i.e. commercial, personal?  - current, future?

Sitki

Of course.

The smilies are from WoltLab.

Thanks for the clarification. That's another reason why that smiley set can't go into the core: WoltLab doesn't create open source apps - they're a company that creates closed-source, commercial applications. We can't use a smiley set without their written consent.

Yes, that is correct. But alternative response from number 2 or possibly also by SMF smilies (2.0).
