Have run the 1.4.26 for years without problems.. However, thought it might be time to update to the current version..

Anything specific I need to concern about? Should I update straight to newest version or any other thing I need to know to make the update as smooth as possible?

Backup both your files and database first. Check your theme and plugins are 1.5 compatible. I tend to disable all plugins before upgrading just to be safe. Then follow the upgrade instructions, the upgrade should be smooth and simple.

You really need to upgrade as there are known security issues with the version you are running as it has been unsupported for a very long time.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Thanks! Will give it a try! Don't think I have too many plugins etc installed..

i tried to upgrade from 1.4x to the current version. i kept the anycontent file and the albums directory and uploaded everything else fresh from 1.5.46

then when i go to the update.php address i get the error "Coppermine Photo Gallery seems not to be installed correctly, or you are running coppermine for the first time. You'll be redirected to the installer. "

i went through the installer, just in case it would work, and it gives me a fresh empty gallery.

the album directory and all the photos are still where they are supposed to be.

where did i go wrong?
thanks

nevermind- more poking around the support forum reveals my mistake. i needed to upload the include/config.php file.

i cant understand why this critical step didnt seem to be in the upgrade manual.

thanks to the support forum!
and thanks for keeping coppermine alive and well.
