Error messages

[sharpo]

Not sure if it's a coppermine problem or if my hosting site has been hacked.

Not looked at everything, but one example:-

The plugin page has errors showing and not many plugins listed, but in the plugins folder in my host there are a lot of plugins.
Also, the install/uninstall "buttons" don't exist, it's just letters.

The site is:- https://www.sharpos-world.co.uk/cpg/

and it was recently upgraded to 1.6.27 - it does seem to work, although I haven't checked everything

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks, Sharpo.

I've contacted my webhost & he thinks it might be plugins not compatible with PHP 8.3

Is that the problem.

He says to uninstall plugins, to try and see if it solves the problem, but there is no uninstall button - just the letters spelling it.

The immediate cause of the problem is that the minicms plugin doesn't work with the PHP version you are using – as the web host said.

I tried installing the plugin in my test system with PHP 8.2.28. Just running the plugin Manager with the minicms code in place threw up the same error message as shown here. When I changed the PHP version to 7.4.33 the Plugin Manager would run without errors. However, when trying to install the plugin an error message appeared about the xxxx_cms table saying "column 'content' can't have a default value". This meant the CMS Admin manager wouldn't run.

The plugin manager screen looks fine. The reason it's shorter than the number of plugins in the plugin folder is due to it crashing on the minicms plugin and not displaying the remainder.

Many of the plugins in your folder are years old and might not run with PHP 8.
There's no sign of anyone updating the minicms plugin so you have to decide whether you want to continue with it – in which case you'll need to run an unsupported old version of PHP - PHP 7. If you don't need it, see if you can run PHP 7 in your hosting space so that you can uninstall it using the Plugin Manager. Then change back to PHP 8.x and see what happens with other plugins.

One other thing, none of the link to the gallery work for me on my desktop although I could access the site on my mobile. I tried a website connectivity checker and it had problems too. See screesnshot.

Thanks very much for the reply.

It has been a difficult few days, I'm told there was a bot attack on WordPress on one of my sites & things ground to a halt because of 100%cpu usage etc.

My webhost advised me to remove certain WordPress plugins and upgrade PHP so that is probably what is causing problems with the gallery.

Another piece of advice was to route DNS through CloudFare servers to reduce problems of bots etc.
Now I'm having problems and can't connect to any sharpos-world.co.uk sites.

I'll have to get back to my webhost to first of all find out why my sites won't load, then once that is done try to go back to original PHP to remove that plugin.

In recent days I did a search on this forum to see if there was any mention of minicms and php, somebody asked a question about it some time ago but never had a reply.

I'll update this topic once I start making progress, in the meantime - thanks.

Sharpo.

Going back to Coppermine 1.4.x and minicms, the plugin might have used a 3rd party editor that might have had some vulnerability.

(if memory serves...)

[sharpo]

RESULT!!

Finally got my website working again.

Then changed PHP back to 7.4 and logged into my gallery and all the plugins were showing. Then I uninstalled minicms and deleted it from the plugin folder - all the error messages disappeared.

Changed PHP back to 8.3 and no errors showing on the Plugin Manager page now.

Presume it means minicms does not work with PHP 8.3 but is OK with 7.4.

*Thanks to Joe & 406man for your help.*

Joe is correct. The minicms plugin used more than one third party component and those were lost to the annuls of time. So there really is little chance of updating it.

If it's of any importance, there a simple fix that will allow minicms to function with php8.3 ... although I have not fully tested it beyond basics.

[sharpo]

That's interesting!!

You've always been very helpful in the past when I've had problems, if you do have any spare time and can easily fix it, it could be useful.

Keep me posted!!

Thanks, sharpo.

Keep me posted!!

[sharpo]

Thanks for that, glad I mentioned the problem!!

Will look into it later when I have some spare time.

Just be aware there was a security issue with the editor (FCKeditor) and was never updated. FCKeditor has been discontinued for some time and replaced with CKeditor with a substantial lot of changes since the version shipped with MiniCMS.

Details and links to the repo here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CKEditor

I am not sure how much work would be needed to replace the editor in the package.

[ron4mac]

When looking at the issue minicms is having with PHP8.3, I looked at what it takes to switch the editor. I was able to switch to the basic operation of Trix after looking at it for a few hours. I also have experience with embedding CKEditor in one of my own projects. Changing the editor is quite doable ... but is it something worth doing? I'm not sure how relevant CPG is today. There may be only one or two people who have compelling interest in using minicms.

[sharpo]

Concerning minicms, I would use it if it was available - but if not, I'll manage without it.

Give it some time & see if anybody else shows interest in it, being able to add a few comments here & there used to be very handy.

Thanks for updating me on the situation with it.

Oh, just looked at my gallery - it was started on Jan 22nd 2006. Yes, nearly 20 years ago!!
