Yes, but there will be many hosts who won't upgrade for some time. I'll put money on one of my 2 hosts not doing it for a long time. :-\\
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

I'm pretty lucky that my host upgrades often.  I did make sure to ask about a GD upgrade though.  ;)

hello
someone has the files (gdgif.zip) someone posted earlier?
the link doesnt work for me and im not sure what code to change..
im using coppermine 1.3.4 with php4 and apache2
everything works for me except gif uploading.. :-\\
