Video thumbnails - problem getting them to work

I have about 20 video files.  I created an associated .JPG for each video, prefaced with "thumb_"

Some videos were already on the server, others were added at a later date.  I batch uploaded some thumbs - some worked, some showed up in the album along side the videos - as an image - and the corresponding videos still had no image thumbnail. I double checked the names, and they were identical - except for the extension. 

I also tried individually uploading the images using the "upload" feature.  Again, only some of the images "took" - the rest showed up as regular images in the same gallery as the videos. So I checked the names again - they are all correct (I actually just copied and pasted the text and added thumb_ in the front.)

Example: black-leather-couch-pt1.wmv   thumb_black-leather-couch-pt1.jpg   <- this did not work

Any ideas on this?  Should I just delete the files and reupload the video and thumbs at the same time?
