Another Activation Email Question..

I've looked thorough this forum and it appears that my question has almost been asked before 
I'm testing my gallery before I finally make it live but I simply cannot get any activation emails through to any email accounts.
I have tried leaving the email settings blank and I have tried filling them with my current email smtp settings, password etc.
The host smtp is off so I've put in my btinternet smtp settings... is this my problem?
My gallery is hosted by Awardspace
My gallery is The SEVAC Gallery
