Need help upgrading to 1.4 and then copying jpgs from another old cpg 1.3 server

Well version 1.3 of coppermine runs just fine for me but I realize the only way I will get
support to copy my jpgs from my old coppermine 1.3 hd that I mounted in my new server is by first upgrading to cpg 1.4.  So first off where do I start with that?
APT-GET Install cpg1.4?   Then since I aready have my old drive mounted where does coppermine store the jpg "ie in what directory" files I previously loaded? which was before my old system crashed.so I can copy
them to the hard drive on my New cpg install.
