I uploaded coppermine 1.3 and then tried stable version 1.2.1 and  got the following error when trying to upload files.

Warning: move_uploaded_file(./edit/mHTTP_temp_7929534e.jpg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/thevoice/public_html/coppermine/upload.php on line 1156

Warning: move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/tmp/phpc8Kedr' to './edit/mHTTP_temp_7929534e.jpg' in /home/thevoice/public_html/coppermine/upload.php on line 1156

has anyone ever seen this?

the error message you got is not from cpg1.2.1, but cpg1.3.0 (which goes unsupported, as it's still beta and is only meant for experienced users). Read the stickies on the cpg1.3 bugs/testing board >:(
