I dont know if this has been suggested but I'd quite like for META tags to be generated to improve my gallerys search engine ranking. as i understand this does not happen right now

Add it into the code and post the hack - it'd be helpful to others, along with all the fame, money and women you get with it. (not that I've seen any yet...)

But if you do want to add then {meta} in theme.php is where is should be appended to...
