Hi all

I need some advice please.

I operate a HUGE (35,000 pic) site using coppermine 1.1 and am considering upgrading to 1.2 but one thing concerns me.

It states in the readme file that I should backup the 'albums' folder on my server. Is this because that folder is destroyed during the upgrade or is it just a precaution? I do have backups of that folder but to restore the 30 Gbytes takes a long time and I would rather not have to do it if at all possible!!

This web-site is my sole source of income so wish to be 100% secure in the knowledge that all will be OK before I upgrade.

Sorry to be so cautious!

Thanks

It's purely a precaution.  You should not touch the albums folder during the upgrade, but it's easy to to click the wrong button when ftp'ing.
Make sure you don't overwrite any of the folders the instructions says not to, or thats when the trouble will start.

if you do it right, there will be no need to replace this folder.  And you say you already have a backup.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

backing up the whole files on the server is not so important, just do a backup of the files that are on your local hard drive and (most important of all) remember to backup your mySQL tables. This way, cou can always go safely back if there should be an error during upgrade.
