This is incredible. I have been using 4image, a free gallery management script similar to Coppermine for a while. Today, I was informed that the site http://alteredpixels.net/pages/products.php was actually selling "their" software PictureIT for USD 225. The DEMO screen clearly proved that this was actually 4images (same template, same layout, even the copyright notice was unchanged). I imagine that they have received complains and they have removed 4images, but if you now go to the demo page of PictureIT , you will have a big surprise....  They have even not removed the copyright notice "Powered by Coppermine Photo Gallery", how stupid can they be !!!.....
And they sell it for USD 225 !!! Claiming "Altered Pixels prides itself on being capable of suiting all of your Website Needs. Indoing so, we have developed several Software Packages(...)". They have not developped anything and are just stealing other people's work....  Check it out by yourself !!
Hope someone can do something about these guys. Who will be next?

Thank you for this information. The Dev Team is now in consultations to decide what to do.

Hi Shadowlord, (nice nickname, should of thought of that myself, as I run a Shadow owners club site).

Thanks for the info.  It was noticed earlier today, so I have merged your post with that thread.

It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

as you all know it alterd pixels was trying to sell coppermine, xcart and a few other programs they changed looks and a new site

http://alteredpixels.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=index&catid=&topic=4

here is the links to the new site but this is what they said about coppemine

Has been under development...
To Those of you whom saw fit to accuse us of "Stealing" or "Reselling" Software with minor adjustments, etc. it is not necessary for you to know this, however: We were testing out other Image Gallery Software Packages to compare features we liked and did not like, while we are in development of our 'PictureIT!'. Gallery Portal.

To those wonderful people like us who develop and Test software, we are terribly apologetic about reports within your Forums and Bulletins regarding the "Alleged" claims. Surely, While you develop your own software, you must Compare your features with those of the community.

shadowlord

they for got to add they was selling it on hotscripts.com

I have not found any evidence that they are currently selling Coppermine as their PictureIT product, but rest assured that the Dev Team is monitoring the situation.  As of this moment, there is no apparent GPL violation by Altered Pixels. Should this change, we will act accordingly.
