please help If someone could help me, that'd be great. I've downloaded CPG1.3 but I don't know what to do now. I don't know how to make my gallery look like everyone else's.  :-\\ I'm so confused and lost. I need LOTS of help!

thanks

Tranz

Did you read the documentation in the docs folder?

mrsbloom

Okay, I'm a bit "special" when it comes to this, so i read it and i still am lost and confused.

Tranz

At which part did you get confused? What do you understand so far? Have you tried to reread the documentation a little bit at a time to comprehend it, before proceeding to the next part?

mrsbloom

Do I upload everything in the folder to my server and then edit it?

Tranz

OK, so you're here:
Quote2.1 How to install the script
Unpack the archive preserving the directory structure
(you can rename the coppermine folder, but not the files or folders within).
Upload all files onto your webserver (make sure to use the correct ftp mode)
CHMOD the folders albums and include to 755 (or 777, depending on your server config) - this step is really important, don't skip it!
There are a lot of tutorials for beginners how to use chmod available: search chmod tutorials with google. If you're on a windows server, you'll have to set permissions accordingly as well (usually the webserver runs under the user name "IUSR_hostname" - you'll have to set rwx-permissions for this user).
Run the install script on your server (http://your_server/coppermine_dir/install.php) and follow the instructions

Did you accomplish the first task?

mrsbloom

no, i give up. it's far too complex for me to ever understand unless someone actually did it for me, but then it wouldn't be as fun.

Casper

It's not at all complicated, but can be confusing for someone who has never done anything like it before.

First, have you got webspace which has php, mysql and either Imagemagick or GD.

If yes, the next thing you need to do is 'unpack' the archive.  This means unzipping it.  Double click on the zip file, and select 'extract to'.  Check that where it is putting the folders on your harddrive is ok.

Now go to the folders, and you will see the coppermine folders, with the files and more folders inside.  DO NOT move these folders or files about within the main folder, but you can move the main folder anywhere.

Now you have to create the database you are going to use on your server, if you don't already have it.

Now upload the complete coppermine folder, with all files in it, to your server, using your ftp program, and chmod the folders as described in the instructions.

Now simply use you browser to go to www.yoursite.com/yourcopperminefolder/install.php, and follow the instructions.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here
