Some people can't see any pictures

Hi,

The problem I am having is that some people don't seem to be able to see the pictures in my gallery, just red crosses. I thought it was just my friend and we put it down to her ancient comp, but a couple of people that I have directed there have said that they can't get the pics to show on IE. I use firefox and have never had a problem and can see them in a IE window too when I tried but I don't know if this is a problem at my end or theirs.

Do you have hotlink protection enabled and do those people use Norton Internet Security (or whatever they call that firewall app)?

You might check the images themselves. I had a CD of samples from a manufacturer. 3 of the 4 cd's worked nicely.

The 4th CD, sort of worked, in that GD made thumbnails and the intermediate pictures but when you went to view the full size picture IE displayed the red X.

I can't remember if mozilla did the same, I don't think I tested it.

I took one of the images locally and dragged it onto IE.. same affect. IE just didn't like that batch of images. I used ACDSEE (which didn't have a problem with the images, go figure) converted them to bmp's, then back to jpgs. Re-uploaded them and its happy as a clam.

Moral of the story check your images, GD may be able to deal with them, IE may not.

as a sidenote, probably won't apply to your issues: coppermine/GD can't handle all jpegs: they have to be in RGB (yes, there are some in CMYK as well), and some (silly) users even just rename bmp or tif to jpg - most image suites (like ACDSEE) can cope well with this, while GD can't.
