Is there any hacks or addons that would let me put the different a-z on one line linking to the categories  if i went a-z twice it would be horribly long and would not look good at all.

I can see why this would be required on your site.  As far as I know this has not been coded yet.
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here

Well I thought there may be a way to work this, not as a hack, just a workaround, and it's quite easy, just tedious.

Create all the categories.  Your first main cat (metal) id is 2, then do the 26 subcats(you already have the first 2, ids 5 & 6), so they would have ids 5 - 30.

Now edit the properties of the main cat (cat 2), and use bbcode to include a link to each cat in the category description, for example, for you 'Metal' cat;

[url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=5]A[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=6]B[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=7]C[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=8]D[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=9]E[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=10]F[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=11]G[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=12]H[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=13]I[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=14]J[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=15]K[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=16]L[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=17]M[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=18]N[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=19]O[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=20]P[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=21]Q[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=22]R[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=23]S[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=24]T[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=25]U[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=26]V[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=27]W[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=28]X[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=29]Y[/url], [url=http://www.true-metal-forum.net/ratings/index.php?cat=30]Z[/url]

Then go into config, and set the ' Number of levels of categories to display' to 1, and the ' Show first level album thumbnails in categories' to No.

This is what you should then see;
It has been a long time now since I did my little bit here, and have done no coding or any other such stuff since. I'm back to being a noob here
